How to Upload a Header Image to Headway 3.0

Uploading a header image (logo) to your headway site is a pretty simple affair. If this option has eluded you, I’ve created a quick 2-minute video showing you how. To the video!

How to Add a Header Image to Headway Sites

As always, if you’re too lazy or unable to view the video, just follow these steps (there’s a visual for reference. click to enlarge):

  • Open the Visual Editor in any mode
  • (optional) For a global header, make sure you’re editing the top most layout (blog index by default)
  • Hover over the header block and click the settings button.
  • Where it says “header image” click “choose image”
  • Upload your header image using the WordPress media uploader
  • Click “use image.”
  • Save your changes!

Different Headers for Different Layouts

You can use this same process, just on a different page, to create different headers for different layouts. Just edit a different page from the grid mode (if you’ve not customized the pages yet), clone a layout, and un-mirror the header block. Then upload your new image.

  1. Hi Corey – so glad to have found your site! I have a couple of questions! First – my site already has a header which I would like to replace. Can you tell me how to remove an existing header image before adding the new one as per your vid above.
Also – in my new header I would like to have my opt in boxes (as an example – I’d like something similar to this site here http://www.arealchange.com ) – how do I have my optin boxes in the header like that – I use one shopping cart, so I know how to get the opt-in form html for it, but not how to then use that to have it in the header. Thanks :-)

    • You don’t actually have to delete the previous image before clicking the add new, button, but you would hit the little “x” next to the button. If you actually want to delete the image from your website, however, it’s stored in wp-admin–>media.

As far as the opt-in box, the site you’ve showed me actually has it in the sidebar, arrow and all. If you wanted to add something to the actual header block, you’d need to use child themes and hooks.

If you’re interested in any of that, here’s how to create a child theme: http://headwayexpert.com/how-to-create-a-child-theme/

And here’s an explanation/introduction to hooks:
